Learning Goals and Expected Workload

Learning Goals

This course seeks to advance students' progress towards all of the English department's learning goals. That is, in this course, students will:

1. Write scholarly and creative works on a substantial body of texts in English or that inform English language literary works.
2. Analyze texts from a range of critical, cultural, and theoretical perspectives.
3. Conduct independent research in the discipline of English Literature.
4. Write persuasively and elegantly in a variety of styles and genres.
5. Practice revision to improve writing.
6. Articulate the skills students develop to multiple audiences beyond the College.

Expected Workload

Grinnell College defines four credits of academic work as equivalent to an expected minimum of 12 hours of academic work per week, including the meetings times of the class.
