Electronic Literature Projects and Portfolio

The electronic literature unit will culminate in the submission of a portfolio consisting of three parts.

The first part is your digital story. This will be a Twine-based extension of the "request moment" scene that you have written for an earlier assignment. It should include at least three substantial scenes, meaning interactions that are separated from one another by the locations, times, or characters involved.

The second part will be a reflective essay on your digital story. This reflection of 900-1200 words will begin with a key detail from your story and guide the reader through three levels of thinking about your project in relation to other pieces of electronic literature: 1) the detail, 2) a pattern of details that connect your initial detail to other parts of the story (and the pattern may break or have exceptions), and 3) the conceptual implications of that pattern.

The third part will be a statement of acknowledgements and thanks. Use this to say what sources and examples you drew on for your project, including the work of classmates or the help of campus collaborators such as friends or the staff of the Writing Center.

The assignment will be evaluated according to this rubric:

Exceptional (A) projects will meet the requirements of the assignment while also exhibiting unusual creativity and effort in exploring the affordances of electronic literature. Exceptional work will put itself in conversation with other pieces of literature and criticism to to create written objects that could not exist in other forms and that engage the reader in thinking about the implications of the digital medium.

Good (B) work on this assignment involves completing your assigned work on time and accurately, demonstrating your command of the electronic environments in which you write and productive engagement with other pieces of literature and criticism.

Insufficient (C) projects do not contain all of the required components, are late, or do not significantly connect themselves to other pieces of literature and criticism.

Failure to complete the assignment (F) indicates failure to complete the assignment by the deadline.
