The Pandemic Generation's Future of the Book

Standard Version

The standard version of this assignment will consist of the following elements:

  • An essay of at least 500 words with the title "The Death of the Book after the Pandemic" that uses the Leah Price essay as a model of form and audience. This essay will quote or refer to specific moments in three of the class readings about the future of the book, while offering your response to those readings based on your experience with reading and writing during or after the COVID pandemic.
  • A short reflection of at least 200 words about the ways in which your essay was influenced by using Price as a model and/or the conversation you had with your classmates about your ideas for this essay.
  • Note: given the generic expectations of this mode of writing, you do not need to cite sources from our syllabus formally. If you use other sources, do add Chicago NB style citations for them at the end of your piece.

Extra Version

The Extra Version of this assignment involves a revision and expansion of the initial, complete assignment after I respond to that version. To complete the Extra Version,

  • Expand your original essay to a longer essay of at least 1000 words in the same mode.
  • Add quotations of or specific references to two additional sources that do not come from the assigned readings for this course. Include a Chicago NB style bibliography that cites all of your sources that do not come from our syllabus.
