Weekly Routine

Quotations of Interest (usually for Mondays)

Choose three quotations from the reading for today, each (ideally) representing some connection with your chosen interest. By 5:00 p.m. Iowa time on the day of class, write the quotations (with citations) in your classwork document. You do not have to write anything about the quotations, but be prepared to talk about why you selected each of them.

Seminar Day, Version A (usually for Tuesdays)

If you are in Seminar A (groups 1, 2, and 3): By 5:00 p.m. Iowa time on the day of class, post in your classwork document one issue or question that you would like to offer for discussion in your seminar meeting.

If you are in Seminar B (groups 4, 5, and 6): By 5:00 p.m. Iowa time on the day of class, post in your classwork document two specific moments in the day's reading, each with a prompt for discussion that you will share with your small group. Your group will meet for an hour to discuss all of your prompts; after that meeting, add brief notes to your document about how your group discussed each of your two prompts.

Seminar Day, Version B (usually for Wednesdays)

Note: Version B is simply version A with the roles switched between the two halves of the class.

If you are in Seminar A (groups 1, 2, and 3): By 5:00 p.m. Iowa time on the day of class, post in your classwork document two specific moments in the day's reading, each with a prompt for discussion that you will share with your small group. Your group will meet for an hour to discuss all of your prompts; after that meeting, add brief notes to your document about how your group discussed each of your two prompts.

If you are in Seminar B (groups 4, 5, and 6): By 5:00 p.m. Iowa time on the day of class, post in your classwork document one issue or question that you would like to offer for discussion in your seminar meeting.

Thursday Reflection

By 5:00 p.m. Iowa time on the day of class, write in your classwork document a) one quotation from the day's reading (with citation) and b) at least 200 words of writing about how that quotation connects to readings from earlier in the week.
